As I explain in Introduction to Airbnb Hunters, this is the Bergen, Norway edition.
We will be spending 3 nights and 2 full days in Bergen, the second biggest city in Norway. As always, I want the balance of atmosphere and beauty, a full kitchen in case we need to cook meals because of restaurant costs, reasonable price, and walking distance to the main sights. I almost booked an Airbnb with a gorgeous view, but while reading reviews realized that the kitchen and living room would be shared with our hosts!
Jim and I like to have our own private space. In some of my European airbnb searches I’m finding that marking Private Space blocks out options where you really have the whole space to yourself even though it might be part of a larger home. I took that option off my criteria for searches, but now have to be extra careful to make sure that the whole space is only for our use. It is important to ALWAYS read reviews on a potential Airbnb.
Here are our Airbnb Choices
- Iconic topfloor in city center – This light and airy second floor studio looks fresh and modern while nestled in a historic area full of charm. It’s in a pedestrian-only area so we won’t have any car traffic but may have late night noise from people out enjoying their weekend. This location is close to both the railroad and ferry and near lots of sights. Three nights total cost is $334.
- Tiny, modern studio – This brand new build is located between historic buildings a bit further from the train station but close to many sights. It has two double sleeping alcoves with a small complete kitchen and sitting area with tv plus bathroom. Total cost is $258.
- Spacious penthouse w/parking and private balcony – Also in a great part of town (are there any bad parts?), this one is on a little peninsula with a balcony and a very high-end feel. There are only 8 reviews but they are all glowing. A little pricier than our other options at $537 for the three nights.
